After crashing Avid's Demo Conference of Pro Tools 9, it got me pondering about my career choice. As one wanting to puruse a carreer in sound for film, I must be able to consider the importance of emerging technologies and its affect on my industry.
In my specailisation, Pro Tools 9 is a form of audio technology that is constantly pushing the boundaries in sound design while making it easier to utilise and produce clean and stylistic sound for any multimedia.
Using the smart phone/the NOKIA 97, I had the flexibilty to make choices for recording on the fly, while being able to take pics, text, and stream or send the mp4 vids via 3G at the same time.
If I had to do it again, I would probably get a really reliable smartphone to capture it all.
After viewing the demo of an ipad application acting as a suface control and editing a Pro Tools session via bluetooth, it made me realise that its won't be long till any smartphone will be able to offer the same capabability. Perhaps over the next 3 years, owning a smartphone in the film industry will no longer be a luxury, but a neccessity.
